WHY FAST FROM

Your not-to-do list.

Digital fasting means taking a break from the apps that fill your time. Choose what to pause, set the length of the fast, and focus on what matters.

HOW FAST FROM BEGAN

It started with a very long to-do list.

My to-do list was stupidly long. God got me thinking about a “not-to-do list” and said, “Why don’t you take a break from your to-do list and just not do for a while?”

My own phone use is light. Social media is absent from my day, and putting the phone away comes easily. Then God said the not-to-do list was for everyone: make one that anyone on Earth could use.

Fast From is what emerged.

THE RHYTHM

Fast. Reflect. Repeat.

Phones can fill the day from the first check in the morning to the last one before nighty-night. We can be pulled in many directions by FOMO, boredom, habit, work messages, email, games, news, or social feeds. Sometimes the soul—our mind, will, and emotions—needs a break.

A digital fast gives that activity a clear beginning and end. Pause one app, a group of apps, or every app on your not-to-do list. Fast From stays available so you can see the timer and reach fast options when needed.

The belief behind Fast From is that people are equipped to step away and make space, even if they have not realized it yet. Fast From helps put that into practice: select the apps, set the time, define why if you want to, complete the fast, reflect if you want to, then repeat, schedule, or extend.

1

Choose your not-to-do list

Select the apps you want to pause.

2

Set the time

Pick when it starts and how long it lasts.

3

Define your why. If you want to.

Record the reason behind the fast.

4

Let the fast run

The selected apps stay paused until it ends.

5

Reflect. If you want to.

Record whether it helped you achieve your hope and use what you learned next time.

6

Decide what comes next

Repeat it, create a recurring schedule, or extend it when you want more time.

OPTIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Invite someone you trust into the commitment.

Accountability is available when you want another person involved. Before the fast starts, hand the device to a trusted friend, parent, spouse, or another person you choose. They create a six-digit code and keep it private.

Ending it early requires the code. Your accountability partner can enter it on the device or share it with you when they decide.

IN THE SPACE YOU MAKE

Be present.

Reflection

Think, write, read, or simply sit in quiet.

Community

Connect with family, friends, neighbors, and the people around you.

Movement and nature

Take a walk, hit the gym, stretch, or spend time in nature.
